Welcome to the website of the Doctoral School of Animal Science at the University of Debrecen.
Doctoral education in animal science has been part of the academic life of the University of Debrecen since 1994. The main aim of our Doctoral School is to combine the foundations of animal breeding and production with modern approaches in animal science, and to train researchers who are able to work independently and address current and emerging questions in the field to a high scientific standard.
Agriculture, including the livestock sector, is facing increasingly complex challenges nowadays. Scientific research, new technologies and collaboration across disciplines all have an important role in addressing these challenges. Research within our Doctoral School covers animal production, animal nutrition and fish biology, reproductive biology, genomics, as well as animal breeding, conservation of genetic resources and animal ecology. Alongside established approaches in animal science, our research also makes use of molecular and genomic methods, precision technologies and data-driven approaches.
Independent research is at the core of our doctoral programme. Our PhD students become involved in the work of our departments and research groups, participate in national and international research collaborations, and present their findings through scientific publications and at conferences. They also have opportunities to gain research experience in an international environment.
Our aim is to provide doctoral education that builds on the long-standing traditions of animal science at the University of Debrecen while incorporating recent advances in the field. We place particular emphasis on scientific quality, interdisciplinary thinking and international collaboration, and on research that addresses relevant problems in animal production and related fields.
The Doctoral School welcomes both Hungarian and international students. We encourage applications from young researchers who are interested in animal science, are prepared to undertake independent research, and would like to contribute to questions that will shape the future of animal production and livestock science.
